Julius Baer Zurich E-PRIX 2018 | June 10th

Innovation, Electrified

An all-around success
The inaugural Julius Baer Zurich E-Prix 2018 was an all-around success - along the 2,46 km track, and above and beyond. Zurich's skies were often electrified with thunderstorms in the weeks leading up to this historical event, yet the ABB FIA Formula E Championship's 42 race track record of dry weather remained intact. The planning and execution of this historical event earned praise from FEO, city employees and other stakeholders. A total of 1'400 blue concrete elements were gradually placed along the racetrack to ensure spectator safety. Meanwhile the various hospitality areas, bridges, grandstands and other structures were put in place just days before the event, making sure residents and lakeside visitors could still access the lakeside easily, and ensuring traffic flow for as long as possible.

QUIET, POWERFUL, AND FAMILY FRIENDLY
From June 7 - 9 the E-Days contributed to the event's success with entertainment for all ages, even the littlest of aspiring race car drivers. Informational events educating the public about sustainable mobility and racing, rounded out the offering. The "Driving Experience" provided a chance for interested visitors to test drive a variety of electric vehicles. The race itself took place on Sunday, June 10. While the spectator and entertainment areas around the track were abuzz with over 150'000 visitors' excited discussions, the powerful cars whooshed by quietly at no more than 80 decibels.

A HISTORICAL WEEKEND OF FIRSTS
Two-time Formula 1 winner Emerson Fittipaldi sat in an electrical race car for the first time, visibly enjoying the experience. After winning the first Formula E race in Zürich, winner Lucas di Grassi celebrated by jumping in the Lake of Zürich.
