Building bridges.

IN THE HEART OF SWITZERLAND
Lucerne2020 was a bid of all the cantons of Central Switzerland hosted by the city Lucerne. «Building Bridges» is the central theme of the bid and programme. Lucerne with its world famous «Chapel Bridge» reflects the symbolic flagship of this topic with its vibrancy: Lucerne2020 builds bridges between generations, nations, sports and culture, and between the guests from all over the world and the local people.

LONG LASTING BENEFITS
Moreover, the programme is developed on a long-term basis: After four years of preparations for the Youth Olympic Games in Switzerland, first projects would already start in 2014. A six-years programme in advance of the major event will achieve permanent sustainability.

This preparation guarantees a long-standing benefit for 2023 and beyond and gives a boost to the youth sports programme, the development of sport in general, as well as the promotion of trainers and coaches.

TWO CANDIDATE HOST CITIES IN SWITZERLAND
Besides Lucerne there was Lausanne, as second Swiss Candidate which prepared a bid for the Youth Olympic Wintergames 2020. Swiss Olympic then decided in August 2013 to support Lausanne as candidate to host the Youth Olympic Winter Games in 2020. The IOC voted in favoUr for Lausanne and won against Rumania (Brasov).
