THEATRE WINTERTHUR
THEATRE WINTERTHUR TO BE REFURBISHED
The Theatre Winterthur was built in the 1970s and opened in October 1979. It was designed by Zurich architect Frank Krayenbühl. The theatre is operated exclusively as a guest performance venue and offers space for 800 spectators.
The theatre, with its building, stage and event technology, is in need of renovation after around 45 years of unchanged high capacity utilisation. In view of this, a major refurbishment is planned for the 2024/2025 season.
As it will not be possible to perform in the venue during the refurbishment, an alternative is required for this theatre season.
After weighing up the possible locations, a replacement venue was found in the nearby parish hall, which is only a few hundred metres away from the original building and has a good infrastructure.
In addition to its central location, the parish hall also has a large number of rooms and, with the ballroom on the first floor, also offers sufficient space for adequate theatre operations.
TEMPORARY THEATRE
qiip was commissioned by the City of Winterthur to carry out the planning, construction submission, tendering and construction management based on the theatre's requirements for a temporary theatre for one season.
