Almost 70 years after the Olympic Games in St. Moritz, Switzerland is once again dreaming of Olympic and Paralympic Games - thanks to the candidature project «Sion 2026 - The Games in the Heart of Switzerland».

THE GAMES IN THE HEART OF SWITZERLAND
«Sion2026 - The Games in the Heart of Switzerland» was voted as a candidature for the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The Swiss Olympic's national selection process, started at the beginning of 2016 with the involvement of five different projects. The process contained, through the organisation of different collaborative projects, workshops and presentations from specialists and former hosts of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, to perfect the various projects and select a final one that met the identified criteria.

With the start of the budget validation phase, the «Sion 2026» committee has been working on detailed project planning.

qiip was assigned end of May 2017 for elaborating the masterplan of all competition and non-competition venues including the overlay and legacy concept as well as the cost estimation for all infrastructures and temporary installations.

The masterplan was submitted to the Federal Authorities at September 30th, 2017, and the Swiss Federal Government finally agreed on October 19th, 2017 to back a bid for the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games from Sion.

The bid was unfortunately stopped by referendum on June 10th, 2018.
