Sion is confirmed as Swiss candidate for 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
SION WILL BID AGAIN FOR THE WINTER OLYMPICS in 2026 Sion, the capital of the Canton of Valais, will bid for the Winter Olympics for a fourth time. The city in the south-west of the country was first nominated as a candidate for the Games on April 11, 2017 by the Parliament of Sport. It followed the collapse of another potential bid from the Canton of Graubünden, following a referendum defeat. Approval was still required by the Parliament comprised of the 86 Member Federations of Swiss Olympic. This proved to be a formality as all 86 voted in favour of the decision in March this year. Sion was considered the favourite in the 2006 Winter Olympic race, but was beaten 53 votes to 36 by Turin at the 108th IOC Session in Seoul in 1999. Sion also bid for the 1976 Winter Olympics, when they were beaten 39-30 by Denver.
Switzerland has not hosted the Winter Olympics since St Moritz did so in 1948.
St Moritz also staged the Winter Olympics in 1928. qiip is assigned for the masterplan of all competition and non-competition venues including the overlay and legacy concept as well as the cost estimation for all infrastructures and temporary installations. OUR INVOLVEMENT
